NATO Parlamenter Asamblesi üyeleri olarak, Ortadoğu’da yaşanan , tüm Akdeniz’de barış ve istikrarı tehlikeye sokan bölge şiddet olaylarını, son terörist saldırılar artan ölüm olaylarını, derin bir kaygıyla takip etmektedir.

NATO Parlamenter Asamblesi Üyeleri, İsrail ve Filistinli tarafları varolan durumu daha da kötüleştirecek şiddet hareketlerinden kaçınmaya; daha fazla zarara neden olmadan vakit geçirmeden siyasi çözüm yolunda görüşmelere devam etmeye çağırır.

Akdeniz Özel Grubu üyeleri, her iki tarafı böyle bir dialoğun sağlanması yolunda tüm önyargılarını bir tarafa bırakmaya; İsrail ve Filistinli liderleri 12 Mart 2002 tarihinde kabul edilen 1397 sayılı Birleşmiş Milletler Güvenlik Konseyi kararının uygulanması konusunda işbirliği yapmaya çağırır. Ayrıca, her iki tarafın liderlerini, Ortadoğu’da yapıcı ve kalıcı bir Barış Süreci görüşmeleri için, Mitchell Raporu ve Tenet Planı’nın temel olarak kabul etmeye davet eder.

Akdeniz Özel Grubu üyeleri, Ortadoğu’da kapsamlı ve kalıcı barış için önemli uluslararası aktörlerin her iki tarafa da baskı yapması gerektiği düşüncesindedir.

Chairman of the Special Mediterranean Group of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

Brussels, 18 March 2002

The members of the Special Mediterranean Group of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly have been following with deep concern the escalation of violence in the Middle East, including the most recent acts of terror and the increased number of casualties, which could jeopardize peace and stability throughout the Mediterranean.

The members of the Special Mediterranean Group call upon the Israeli and Palestinian sides to refrain from any further violent actions that could yet aggravate the situation and to resume negotiations on a political settlement without delay that would put an end to ever increasing human sufferings.

The members of the Special Mediterranean Group urge both sides to leave aside preconditions for the resumption of such dialogue, and call upon the Israeli and Palestinian leaders to co-operate in the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1397 that was adopted on 12 March 2002. They further urge the leaders of both sides to adopt the recommendations of the Mitchell report and Tenet plan as a basis for the resumption of constructive and lasting Peace Process negotiations.

The members of the Special Mediterranean Group are also of the opinion that key international players should continue to exert equal pressure on both sides to bring about a comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East.
